In this client blog, the vision was all about elevating everyday living as we focused on designing a refined kitchen and bootroom for a new build. With a young family in mind, this space is thoughtfully crafted to balance functionality with a quiet luxury aesthetic, resulting in a home that is both beautiful and practical. The journey began with understanding the family’s needs: they desired a home that could serve as both a sophisticated entertaining space and a warm, functional family hub. The result is an elegant open-plan layout that flows effortlessly between cooking, dining, and living areas, creating a welcoming space for gatherings big and small.

Interior Insights: Open-Plan Living

This sophisticated open-plan space harmoniously blends modern and traditional styles, achieving a timeless design. The kitchen features shaker-style cabinetry with a two-tone colour scheme: a neutral shell for the main cabinets paired with a graphite-toned island. This colour contrast subtly defines zones within the open-plan layout, enhancing the space’s fluidity and visual appeal. To ensure functionality within the open-plan layout, we created three distinct zones: cooking, dining, and sitting. The main cooking area is thoughtfully positioned at the centre of the space, anchored by a built-in overmantel. Spatial planning is one of our favourite aspects of design—it’s incredibly satisfying to layout a room to include all necessary functions while creating a sense of flow and balance.

The Heart of the Home: A Statement Island

The centrepiece of this kitchen is the large island, designed to be the heart of the home. This substantial island not only anchors the room but also offers ample seating, making it the perfect gathering spot for family meals, casual conversations, or entertaining friends. Its generous size accommodates multiple activities, from meal prep to homework, all while keeping everyone connected in one central space. With the graphite finish grounding the design, the island beautifully contrasts with the neutral cabinetry, adding visual interest and sophistication to the room. This striking feature is as functional as it is elegant, seamlessly blending style with purpose.

Luxurious Touches: The Bespoke Dresser

An elegant bespoke dresser further elevates the kitchen and dining area, serving as both a functional storage solution and a design statement. This meticulously crafted unit features glass shelving and LED lighting, showcasing the client’s collection of glassware and accessories in a refined display. The dresser’s design aligns perfectly with the kitchen’s quiet luxury theme, adding a sophisticated backdrop for entertaining while seamlessly blending with the surrounding cabinetry.

Modern Essentials: Bootroom & Utility Design

The adjoining bootroom and utility spaces continue the home’s refined aesthetic, with a few modern touches to enhance functionality and style. In the bootroom, we used slim shaker-style doors, offering a contemporary take on traditional cabinetry. Painted in Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke, this modern slim shaker design gives the bootroom a streamlined look that feels fresh and inviting, perfect for an active family’s needs. The utility room, finished in graphite, complements the kitchen’s tones and maintains a cohesive flow throughout the home. This new build not only captures the homeowners’ personal style but also brings to life a vision of a family-oriented, luxurious space that is timeless yet practical.

Building Dreams Together: One Room at a Time

Annameadle represents more than just a home upgrade—it’s the story of Building Dreams Together and Re-designing a family home one room at a time. The project with our client was a journey built on trust, collaboration, and a shared vision. Starting in 2022 with the redesign of the office, we created a space that perfectly balanced function and style, setting a strong foundation for the projects to come. Impressed by the results, the client returned to us to continue designing and transforming their home, trusting us to realise each new space in line with their vision. We then moved to the bedroom and walk-in wardrobe, carefully designing each area to meet the client’s evolving needs. Subtle yet impactful updates to the bathroom vanity tops further enhanced the flow of the home, demonstrating our commitment to thoughtful, cohesive design that brings every element together.

Media Room: A Versatile and Inviting Family Space

In 2023, the client returned once again, as the journey of building dreams together: one room at a time continued, this time for the creation of a media room—a project that combined comfort, style, and the latest technology. The media room was designed as a versatile family hangout space, styled in collaboration with Serpentine Interiors. Working closely with the client, Serpentine Interiors selected fabulous soft furnishings and wall colours, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Dunvara crafted bespoke furniture for the room, including a sleek, built-in wall unit made from veneered, oiled doors in a rich dark chocolate colour, with push-to-open functionality for a clean, minimalist look. The timber finish adds texture and warmth, making the space feel cosy yet refined. An open shelf runs along the top of the unit, featuring an integrated LED light strip that adds both style and practicality. At the centre of the unit, a large TV serves as the focal point for family movie nights and sports watching. On either side of the TV, bespoke spaces were designed for the teenage children—one side for a teenage boy who enjoys gaming and playing the guitar, and the other for a teenage girl who loves crafting and colouring. These areas are cleverly hidden when not in use and also serve as study spaces, complete with storage for school bags and other personal items. Bi-fold doors in this space feature fabulous black knobs from Corston, with all electrical outlets thoughtfully selected and supplied by Dunvara. A bespoke rug by Dunvara also centres the entire room, tying the design together beautifully. A striking roof detail, completed by Hackett Construction, adds another layer of craftsmanship and visual interest to the room. The result is a functional, stylish space where the family can relax, work, and play together.

Bedroom: A Calm and Intimate Space

In the Annameadle project’s bedroom, we aimed to create a serene and intimate atmosphere by applying a dark, cohesive colour scheme. The walls and ceilings are colour drenched, enveloping the room in a rich tone that adds depth and warmth. Behind the bed, we introduced a feature wall with wooden slatting, adding texture and a natural element to the space.

The room is anchored by a large, comfortable bed, with bedside lockers sourced from EthniCraft, seamlessly blending functionality and style. The minimalistic design ensures a peaceful environment, perfect for rest and relaxation.

Office Redesign: A Sophisticated and Functional Workspace

As part of the Annameadle project, the office was transformed into a sophisticated, functional space with an emphasis on natural light and scenic outdoor views. A large window provides a serene, picturesque backdrop, offering both inspiration and tranquillity. The custom desk, crafted from rich, natural oak, harmonises with the sleek, dark wall panels, creating a space that is both modern and welcoming.

Walk-in Wardrobe: A Seamless Extension of the Bedroom

The walk-in wardrobe in the Annameadle project continues the same design theme as the bedroom, creating a cohesive and seamless transition between the spaces. The use of dark tones and colour drenching adds intimacy, while the natural wood elements, including custom cabinetry, bring warmth and texture. Wooden slatting, similar to the feature behind the bed, is incorporated into the design, enhancing the connection between the two rooms.

A Kitchen Designed for Togetherness

Our client’s vision was clear—they wanted their kitchen to be the central hub for family gatherings. We embraced this vision, designing a space that perfectly supports family life. The kitchen combines modern and transitional elements, with a calming slate blue palette that creates an inviting atmosphere. We maximised the space, unlocking new living possibilities without the need for a major renovation. A Seamless Blend of Functionality and Style

Feeling Spacious at the Heart of the Kitchen

Living Room: Cozy and Connected

The living room design continues the theme of warmth and connection. We used slatted timber finished in oiled Rubio cornsilk, which brings a natural, yet refined feel to the space. The floating chunky shelves, fitted with LED lights, add both functionality and ambiance, allowing the family to display family photos and treasured keepsakes. The living room is now a cozy, yet stylish retreat where the family can relax and spend quality time together.

Boot Room: A Thoughtfully Designed Transition Space

Boot rooms are often overlooked, but they can make all the difference in the flow and functionality of a home. Here we designed a mid-shaker boot room in slate blue. The solid oak worktop adds a touch of warmth and durability, making this room perfect for a busy family. Finally we integrated T&G wall paneling to give the space texture and depth.

Utility Room: Practical Yet Beautiful

The utility room needed to be as functional as it was stylish. Here, we carried over the mid-shaker cabinetry, this time in a soft vintage pink—a subtle and soothing color choice. The worktop is finished in elegant Carrara Black Marble, creating a luxurious feel without sacrificing practicality.
